Please don't...
It will only lead to issues and problems down the road. On a daily basis, I receive over 150 emails. Relevant emails. Emails from clients, creative partners, franchisees, and the like. Emails that require a thoughtful response, or some other sort of notable action. Email has become our uncontrollable “to-do” list! It keeps uploading itself into our inboxes, smart phones, and Tablets. I understand the nature of our connected disconnectedness, and I know that this is how business gets done now. I’m cool with that. Go ahead, send me a trail of emails throughout the day. Never mind that a five minute phone call could’ve taken care of this more expeditiously. It’s how business gets done. Lately however, a small group is starting to substitute text messaging for email. I am getting business related text messages from Clients, Creative Partners, and Media Pros… and this is NOT how business should be done. Texting is for personal matters, sexting, family, ANYTHING but work. I fear that a business related text message you send me will be lost, read and forgotten, or simply missed. With email, I have a trail I can access. A path I can retrace. I have your email forever. That’s not the case with your text message. It’s time we come to a consensus, an understanding, and create a new communication protocol. Let it forever be known that texting business related matters is not appropriate. It is a weak substitute for a business related email. Email is for business. Texting is for social and personal connections. Please don’t send me a business related text. I need a copy of your message in my inbox. You’re that important to me. ~Mark
