Social in the days of Distancing
“Social Distancing” and closed doors doesn’t have to mean you have shut off communications with your customers. Now it’s more important than ever to stay connected.
We’re all in this together, BE together virtually! James Cordon said on the CBS Early Morning Show that it should be called “Physical Distancing”, not “Social Distancing”. We couldn’t agree more.Right now some of you CAN’T sell anything. Your doors are closed. It’s rough. What can you do?Be there. Be a distraction. Offer some humor or hope. Help your community through donations or volunteer work. Support health care workers or first responders who all have to remain on the front lines. Thank the teachers who have had to find a way to educate our children online, from home, while their own children need them. Sing the praises of your employees who are now at home. Then, share what you’re doing on social media. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Youtube are all your microphones, and they’re free. Use them to connect with your friends and fans. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Restaurants – do a Facebook live cooking show!
- Bars – get one of your regular live musicians to do a Facebook live performance “sponsored by” you!
- Decorators, florists – fill their feed with beautiful arrangements and room decorating ideas
- Physicians, accountants, payroll and insurance admins – host Q&A sessions online for your clients.
- Have your staff share what they are doing in their free time
- Share jokes, memes
- Share feel-good stories from across the country
- Share staff book recommendations
- Create movie viewing parties and anyone who joins can comment
Be relatable
Be human
Ask for nothing in return.
Then when this is over, people will remember what you did, and you’ll have that connection. So, keep your distance but remain social. Be well.
