The Power of Suggestion
I recently read a blog from Seth Godin, about girl scouts, and their cookies. Interestingly, young girls who sell these sugary delights often become leaders in their adult life. Imagine the courage it takes, to stand in front of a big box store and ask everyone who passes “do want to buy some girl scout cookies?” It’s a cruel world, and little girls are facing it head on! But when that young girl gets a smile and a yes, something happens. Confidence! Success is a key ingredient in building courage, and courage begets confidence. Confidence produces winners. Here’s a key in helping more girl scouts succeed with their cookie campaign. Instead of asking “do you want some girl scout cookies?”, ask instead: “what kind of girl scout cookies do you like?” Transforming that simple question from “do you want” to “what are your”, will make all the difference in her world, and i bet she’ll sell more girl scout cookies, too. Thin mints have long been my undoing… i load up every year! Here’s to girl power. ~Mark Storie
